About the Role

BMO is seeking a highly skilled Capital Management Leader to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing and executing our capital management framework and related strategies, initiatives, and operational programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Capital Management: Develop and implement capital management strategies to ensure compliance and optimize the efficiency of capital resources.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on capital planning, monitoring, reporting, and execution of capital transactions.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor the external market to understand best practices and recommend adoption within BMO.
  • Relationship Building: Act as a key contact with stakeholders and industry groups regarding capital management reporting, policies, and practices.
  • Culture Alignment: Foster a culture aligned to BMO's purpose, values, and strategy, and role model BMO values and behaviors in all that you do.
  • Team Leadership: Build interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups to create the highest value for all stakeholders.

  • Issue Identification: Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Initiative Execution: Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Business Prioritization: Help determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Analysis and Assessment: Conduct independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Change Management: Lead or participate in change management activities, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation, and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Apply specialized knowledge and provide advice on the interpretation of regulatory capital rules.
  • Negotiation: Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives.
  • Capital Management Solutions: Recommend and implement capital management solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Corporate Standards: Support the development of Corporate Standards, operating principles, and guidelines to support the Capital Management Framework.
  • Capital Impact Analysis: Conduct analysis to evaluate capital impacts of bank initiatives, actions, and business transactions.
  • Capital Planning: Plan capital requirements and develop capital targets and capital allocation methodology recommendations.
  • Capital Monitoring: Monitor capital usage, capital supply, and capital adequacy.
  • Enterprise Capital Assessment: Support the execution of the Enterprise capital adequacy assessment in partnership with Risk Management.
  • Market Monitoring: Monitor competitive and regulatory developments, assess impacts of changes, and advise on implications for the enterprise/business/group.
  • Industry Networking: May network with industry contacts, rating agencies, and regulators on capital and funding issues to influence and gather competitive insights and practices.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaison: Act as liaison between stakeholders to align agendas and ensure a clear understanding of the business context.
  • Capital Performance Monitoring: Monitor and track capital performance/drivers of capital performance and address any issues.
  • Data Analysis: Gather and format data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
Qualifications
  • Typically between 5-7 years of relevant experience and/or certification in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of economic, social, and political forces and marketplace trends.
  • One or more of the following preferred: MBA Finance, CA, CFA, CGA, CMA.
  • Experience in Finance, Capital Markets, or Treasury.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and financial modeling.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory capital management concepts; capital markets business.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting, balance sheet, and risk management concepts and practices.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
