Job Title: Health Care Worker

About the Role:

The Health Care Worker is a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, working under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to provide patient care in our Maximum and Multi-Level Security Units. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and fostering positive relationships with patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, and assisting with oral hygiene and toileting needs.
  • Assist with meals and feeding patients as required, ensuring dietary needs are met.
  • Monitor patient progress and behavioral changes, reporting significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate.
  • Respond to call bells/alarms and assist with patient transportation using mechanical aides such as specialty beds and wheelchairs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including maintaining patient confidentiality and respect for their rights and privacy.
Requirements:
  • Grade 10 and completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant or Care Attendant program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and maintain a positive working relationship.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work and operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
