About the Role

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking a qualified Library Technician to join our team on a casual/supply basis. As a Library Technician, you will provide support to our elementary and secondary school libraries, ensuring students and teachers have access to available resources during school hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cataloging and classifying books and resource materials
  • Signing books in and out
  • Maintaining the library database and tracking materials inventory
  • Helping students and teachers locate books and materials
  • Recommending purchase of and purchasing age-appropriate resources for the library
Requirements
  • Completion of a community college diploma in Library Information or an equivalent program
  • 1-2 years of library work experience (public library, records/archives management, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of library methodologies and tools
  • Ability to operate an automated library information system
  • Reference and cataloging skills
  • Love of reading and enjoyment of working with children
Working Conditions

This is a casual/supply position, and you will be required to work on an as-need basis during peak periods or to replace absent staff. You will be working in a variety of school libraries, including those with traditional and Makerspace models.
