About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Victim Support Specialist to join our team. As a Victim Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing support and guidance to victims of crime, as well as acting as a liaison between victims and justice personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Provincial Victim Services Program in accordance with the rights of victims of crime
  • Provide information and support services directly to victims of crime
  • Act as a liaison between victims and justice personnel, including police and Crown Attorneys
  • Maintain a caseload of highly sensitive files and provide referrals to specialists as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, typically in the Social Sciences
  • Three years of related experience, including client assessment and interviewing techniques, case management, and computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational ability, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, demonstrate empathy, warmth, and tact, and have an in-depth understanding of human dynamics and the effects of victimization
Working Conditions
  • Casual Relief have no guaranteed hours and are on-call to cover for absences and leaves
  • Stressful work environment given extensive exposure to high emotional issues and dealing with clients in crisis
  • Sitting at a computer for long periods of time
  • Mentally challenging due to a high demand for accuracy and attention to detail with a high volume of work
