About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a skilled and compassionate Victim Services Navigator to join our team. As a key member of our Justice department, you will play a vital role in delivering the Provincial Victim Services Program, ensuring that victims of crime receive the support and services they need.

In this dynamic and challenging role, you will provide information and support services directly to victims of crime, acting as a liaison between the victim and justice personnel. Your expertise will help identify and analyze trends and common concerns of victims, employing a variety of strategies to meet those needs.

You will maintain a caseload of highly sensitive files, providing support to help meet clients' needs and referring them to specialists as necessary. Your strong communication skills will ensure that clients are provided with accurate information regarding the criminal justice system and process.

This is a Casual Relief position, with no guaranteed hours. You will be required to work on an as-needed basis, potentially for short and longer terms as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Provincial Victim Services Program, ensuring that victims of crime receive the support and services they need.
  • Provide information and support services directly to victims of crime, acting as a liaison between the victim and justice personnel.
  • Maintain a caseload of highly sensitive files, providing support to help meet clients' needs and referring them to specialists as necessary.
  • Ensure that clients are provided with accurate information regarding the criminal justice system and process.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Social Sciences) and three years of related experience.
  • Experience in client assessment and interviewing techniques, case management, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and community resources, the Victims' Rights and Services Act, the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational ability, and strong interpersonal skills.
