Your Role
You will take a lead role in planning, executing, and supporting compliance requirements and privacy practices across the organization. You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure FortisAlberta meets the highest standards of compliance and privacy, playing a critical role in fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Framework Design: Responsible for the ongoing design, implementation and administration of FortisAlberta's corporate compliance framework.
- Trend Monitoring: Monitor current and emergent trends, as well as development of compliance-related legislation and industry best practices.
- Advisory Services: Provide advisory services to business units to ensure their compliance processes are well-designed.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct compliance risk assessments to identify business risks, evaluate mitigation steps, and pinpoint potential gaps in the compliance framework.
- Monitoring Program Development: Develop and implement a monitoring program to assess compliance program effectiveness.
- Data Analysis: Collect and analyze relevant data related to compliance metrics and generate reports and dashboards for program performance evaluation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Manage compliance activities in support of the Electric Utilities Act Code of Conduct Regulation and the Inter-Affiliate Code of Conduct.
- Policies and Training: Oversee policy management framework, ensuring existing company policies are maintained and updated, as well as develop new policies and training programs as required.
- Reporting: Prepare compliance reports for Senior Management and the FortisAlberta Board of Directors.
- Investigations and Remediation: Support compliance investigations and establish a process for reporting non-compliance, confirming effective remediation, and implementing post-investigation recommendations.
- Privacy Management: Maintain the privacy incident reporting system, the privacy training program and the privacy response plan.
- Business Development: Assist in business development activities and presentations in the areas of compliance and privacy, as required.
Requirements
- Legislative Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of applicable compliance and privacy legislation and regulations.
- Governance and Risk Management: Thorough understanding of applicable governance and risk management standards, and excellent grasp of risk management principles, tools, and methods.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to audiences at all levels in the business in both formal and informal settings.
- Customer Service Focus: Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
- Information Analysis: Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret information from various sources, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Organizational Skills: Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to motivate and direct cross-functional teams under tight deadlines.
- Professionalism: Demonstrated professionalism and sound judgment in dealing with commercially sensitive or confidential information.
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Partnership Building: Outstanding ability to build strong partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of seven (7) years in a compliance or privacy role; an equivalent combination of education, relevant experience and professional qualifications may be considered.
- Facilitation: Experience facilitating conversations to build consensus, formulate strategies and recommendations.
- Project Leadership: Experience in leading projects would be an asset.
- Regulated Environment: Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
