Position Overview

The role of a Metal Fabrication Assistant involves supporting skilled tradespeople in various tasks related to the fabrication and assembly of metal components.

Qualifications
  • Education: No formal education required, such as a degree, certificate, or diploma.
  • Experience: Ranges from 1 to less than 7 months in a related field.
Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a metal fabrication workshop.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the loading, unloading, and transportation of construction materials.
  • Prepare and level ground to meet precise grading specifications.
  • Clear away rubble and debris from construction sites.
  • Manage traffic flow in and around construction zones.
  • Engage in various labor-intensive and basic tasks as required.
  • Operate machinery for metalworking processes, including cutting, punching, drilling, shaping, or straightening sheet metal.
  • Utilize computer numerical control (CNC) equipment.
  • Support skilled tradespeople in their tasks.
  • Help assemble, erect, and install hoisting and rigging apparatus.
  • Employ computer-aided design (CAD) tools as necessary.
  • Fit and join components made of sheet metal.
Equipment and Machinery Proficiency
  • Experience with welding techniques.
  • Familiarity with soldering tools.
  • Knowledge of shearing machines.
  • Ability to operate punch presses.
  • Experience with drill presses.
  • Proficient in using brakes for metal shaping.

  • Employment Type: Permanent position.

  • Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
