About the Role

Piedmont Sheet Metal (1997) Ltd. is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Fabrication Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for assisting skilled tradespersons in the fabrication of sheet metal products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials to and from the fabrication area.
  • Site Preparation: Level earth to fine grade specifications and remove rubble and other debris at construction sites.
  • Traffic Control: Direct traffic at or near construction sites to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Metalworking Operations: Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape, or straighten sheet metal, and use computer numerical control (CNC) machines as required.
  • Assistance and Support: Assist skilled tradespersons in the fabrication process, including assembling, erecting, and installing hoisting and rigging equipment.
  • Quality Control: Fit and join sheet metal parts, and install sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes.
Equipment and Machinery Experience
  • Welding and Soldering: Experience with welding and soldering equipment is essential.
  • Metalworking Tools: Familiarity with shears, punch presses, drill presses, brakes, and other metalworking tools is required.
Work Environment
  • Work Setting: The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced sheet metal shop environment.
  • Work Schedule: The position requires a 40-hour workweek, with flexibility to work overtime as required.
