Job Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team in the 5 South unit at Hamilton General Hospital. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care to cardiac surgical patients, working collaboratively with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, coordinate, and provide patient care in collaboration with the Registered Nurse on the unit.
  • Participate in continued education and completion of certifications associated with identified nursing skills and learning plans.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with moderately complex care requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Set priorities and organize work in response to patient needs.
Requirements
  • Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, physical assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, medication administration (including Intravenous), and transcribing physician orders.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience (within the last 2 years) in acute care.
  • Demonstrated skills in IV starts, ECG and pacemaker rhythm interpretation/treatment.
  • Completion of a Critical Practice Orientation (ABG interpretation, adult code blue management, shock).
  • Documented completion of a recognized IV administration and IV Management, Venipuncture and Blood and Blood Products Administration course.
  • Current BCLS Certificate.
