The Street Level Team Lead will embody a Christ-centered perspective on poverty and homelessness, aiming to reshape perceptions and engage the community. This role is designed to establish a visible and recognizable presence in the community, enhancing safety, nurturing relationships, valuing individuals, and providing educational outreach. The Street Team program focuses on assisting individuals and families who are chronically homeless and face numerous obstacles to securing permanent housing and accessing essential services. Additionally, this position emphasizes the importance of building partnerships with local businesses and stakeholders by offering educational initiatives to increase awareness of poverty and homelessness issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supportive and proactive leadership for the Street Team.
  • Promote the culture of The Mustard Seed while guiding team members.
  • Manage scheduling and collaborate with partner organizations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses to enhance awareness of poverty and homelessness issues, including providing educational opportunities as necessary.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor staff and volunteers.
  • Encourage and assist team members in achieving goals and advocating for participants.
  • Work closely with the Strathcona Shelter Supervisor on operational and partnership matters.
  • Collaborate with Chaplain, Wellness Advocates, and Programs Coordinators.
  • Support the dignity of guests by identifying their needs respectfully.
  • Guide guests in seeking resources and services that aid them in reaching their objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records as required.
  • Complete daily reports, ensuring timely delivery of incident reports and collection of statistics.
  • Engage in all daily activities of the Street Team as outlined in the support job description.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety protocols and procedures, including incident reporting and mandatory training courses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Compassion for the underserved and a desire to deepen understanding of poverty and justice issues in urban settings.
  • At least one year of frontline experience in a social service agency working with vulnerable populations.
  • A degree or equivalent in Social Work, Psychology, or related fields is considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent boundaries are essential.
  • Strong computer, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • A self-motivated individual capable of working within a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and in a client-centered manner.
  • Experience with Indigenous peoples and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is crucial.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work on holidays and weekends is necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This unique role requires team members to walk long distances while carrying supplies weighing between 20-25 pounds, in all weather conditions.
  • Moderate physical and mental effort is expected.
  • Mental demands include adapting to a fast-paced environment, responding to intense situations, operating a computer and tablet, and quickly addressing crises within the community.
  • Physical demands involve working outdoors in various climates, requiring moderate levels of physical effort, including standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, and maneuvering a supplies cart.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Employment Background Check is mandatory for all positions at The Mustard Seed Society.
  • As a Christian ministry, we require employees to respect and uphold The Mustard Seed's Employment Values throughout their tenure.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis is required for all candidates.

This position necessitates the use of a company vehicle. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and consent to a driver's abstract request.
