Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Marine Engineer to contribute to our operations at Hornblower Cruises and Events.

Candidate Profile:

The successful applicant will be versatile, proactive, and exemplify our commitment to exceptional service.

Role Responsibilities:

The Marine Engineer will oversee the safe functioning and upkeep of the Engines, Generators, engine room, and all related compartments, ensuring the overall maintenance of the vessel. Responsibilities will also include assisting with the boarding and disembarking of passengers.

Key Duties:

  • Deliver outstanding hospitality to guests and colleagues, adhering to our service principles
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and the vessel by following established safety protocols
  • Conduct maintenance and inspections of machinery, restrooms, and the overall condition of the vessel
  • Manage necessary machinery and plumbing repairs
  • Regularly monitor battery levels, fluid levels, and clean strainers
  • Maintain a clean and safe engine room, reporting any concerns to the Master
  • Document all observations in the Engineer Logbook and communicate changes to the Master
  • Participate in emergency drills and safety inspections
  • Assist with deck maintenance and cleanliness
  • Provide restroom services and manage waste disposal
  • Comply with uniform and grooming standards

Qualifications:

  • Relevant educational background recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • Certification in Marine Emergency Duties
  • Transport Canada SVMO Certificate or higher Motor Certificate of Competency
  • Valid passport required
  • Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
  • Energetic and enthusiastic demeanor
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work during holidays
