Position Overview:

Athabasca University's Centre for Humanities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking candidates for a tenure-track role as an Assistant Professor specializing in French. This position is integral to our commitment to providing high-quality online education in the humanities.

About the Faculty:

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest at Athabasca University, offering a diverse array of online courses and programs. Our mission is to equip students with essential skills such as critical thinking, information literacy, and theoretical knowledge, preparing them for the complexities of contemporary society.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing new courses aligned with program needs and personal research interests.
  • Coordinating and updating existing courses within the program.
  • Demonstrating excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating modern digital technologies in online education.
  • Supervising graduate students and teaching graduate-level courses as required.
  • Participating in various administrative committees and contributing to community service initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in French literary studies, with expertise in French, Francophone, French-Canadian, and Québécois literatures.
  • Familiarity with pedagogy related to French language and translation courses.
  • A research agenda that critically engages with the interplay between French literature and global Francophone literature.
  • Experience in distance education and proficiency with digital teaching tools.
  • Fluency in French and proficiency in English.
