Athabasca University's Centre for Humanities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking candidates for a tenure-track role as an Assistant Professor specializing in French. This position is integral to our commitment to providing a diverse and comprehensive educational experience.
About the Faculty:
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest at Athabasca University, offering a variety of online courses and programs across education, humanities, interdisciplinary studies, and social sciences. Our mission is to equip students with critical thinking skills, information literacy, and theoretical knowledge necessary for understanding contemporary and historical issues.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing new courses aligned with program needs and personal research interests.
- Coordinating and updating existing courses within the program.
- Demonstrating teaching excellence and a commitment to utilizing modern digital technologies in online education.
- Supervising graduate students, as opportunities arise.
- Participating in administrative committees and contributing to community service initiatives.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD in French literary studies, enhancing our faculty's expertise in French, Francophone, French-Canadian, and Québécois literatures.
- Experience in teaching French language and translation courses.
- A research focus that critically examines the interplay between French literature and global Francophone literature.
- A strong publication record and an active research agenda in relevant areas.
- Familiarity with distance education and digital teaching tools.
- Fluency in French and proficiency in English.
