The Opportunity - Athletics Coordinator & Associate Rodeo Coach, Contract

Broncos Athletics at Olds College is currently seeking a part-time Coordinator and Associate Rodeo Coach for the events of barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying. Our intercollegiate teams have established a rich tradition of student-athlete success that ranks Olds College as among the finest intercollegiate programs both in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) and the Canadian Colleges Rodeo Association (CCRA).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure animal and human welfare is a top priority at all times.
  • Implement and maintain all aspects of the Animal Use Protocol daily.
  • Develop and ensure safety measures are in place to reduce risk of injury for athletes, coaches, and spectators.
  • Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes during practice and events.
  • Develop and maintain an active recruiting plan focused on ladies events and communicate potential recruits with the Head Rodeo Coach to ensure all athletes are signed according to Broncos Athletics procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure the appropriate academic standards of the student-athletes are met.
  • In coordination with the Head Rodeo Coach, implement a yearly training plan for all athletes, including competition schedule, strength and conditioning, team building, etc.
  • Assist in coordinating fundraising opportunities, alumni engagement, and special events such as rodeo clinics, jackpots, and alumni rodeo.
  • Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, Smart Farm staff, administration, and faculty.
  • Support and act in accordance with the Broncos Athletics strategic plan and initiatives as they relate to fundraising, sponsorship, general promotions, budget management, and community and alumni relations.
  • Supervise student-athletes who are representing Olds College at CCRA events and any exhibition competitions and ensure their adherence to the Athlete Code of Conduct.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • In review with the Head Rodeo Coach, submit the varsity roster to the CCRA in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in CCRA meetings and ensure best practices are being encouraged and followed. Report policy changes and recommendations back to Broncos Athletics.
  • Assist in seeking sponsorship specific to the Olds College rodeo program for events, chutes, arena improvements, and scholarship development.
  • In partnership with the Head Rodeo Coach, participate in athlete check-ins once per semester to ensure athletes are in a positive space academically, mentally, and physically.
  • Contribute to maintaining healthy budgets across all programs in support of Broncos Athletics and Olds College goals.
  • Support and act in accordance with the Broncos Athletics strategic plan and initiatives as they relate to fundraising, sponsorship, general promotions, community and alumni relations, and other appropriate administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in coaching rodeo athletes is required.
  • A National Coaching Certification Program Level II would be considered an asset.
  • Competing at a National/Professional level would be considered in lieu of collegiate coaching experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Adherence to a professional code of conduct that includes being approachable, maintaining a positive attitude, and being trustworthy is required.
  • Champion and foster a positive and inclusive culture, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and open communication within the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners (both internal and external) to achieve goals.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a strong dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity.
  • Good working knowledge of Google and associated apps such as Google Docs, as well as Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
  • Must be able to travel and willing to work flexible hours, primarily evenings and weekends.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification is required.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Work outside of regular College operating hours will be required.
  • A current Criminal Reference check with a vulnerable sector check that is free of any offenses is required.
