About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Advisor to join our Property Ratemaking Department at Desjardins Group. As an Actuarial Advisor, you will play a key role in helping us achieve our growth and profitability objectives by building statistical models, analyzing problems and business opportunities, and providing recommendations to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Optimal Pricing Strategies: Contribute to the development of an optimal pricing strategy based on predictive loss and behavior models, ensuring that our property products are priced competitively and aligned with our business objectives.
  • Mentor and Support Junior Actuaries: Mentor and support junior actuaries in various initiatives, helping them to develop their skills and expertise in actuarial science and property pricing.
  • Evolve Underwriting Techniques: Participate in the evolution of leading-edge underwriting techniques, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to ensure that our underwriting processes are efficient and effective.
  • Segment Housing Products: Understand, build, and improve the segmentation of our housing products using modern modeling techniques, such as Generalized Linear Models (GLM) and Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM).
  • Perform Actuarial Analyses: Perform actuarial analyses on data, including competitive analyses, budgeting, and trend analysis, to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Present Recommendations: Communicate results to stakeholders, including management, other teams, and external partners, and present recommendations for pricing strategies and underwriting techniques.
  • Support Underwriting and Operational Areas: Support underwriting and operational areas for various premium-related items, ensuring that our underwriting processes are efficient and effective.

Requirements
  • Actuarial Science Degree: A Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, math, or statistics.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of two to ten years of relevant experience in actuarial science, property pricing, or a related field.
  • Professional Exams: Passing grade in at least two CAS professional exams or ACIA modules.
  • Language Skills: Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written, due to the nature of the duties or work tools, or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members, and/or clients.
  • Knowledge of Property-Casualty Insurance: Knowledge of property-casualty insurance, including underwriting techniques and pricing strategies.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAS, R, and the Towers Watson suite.
