Position Overview:
The Senior Fire Investigation Associate will report to the Practice Lead of the Fire and Electrical Group, providing leadership and guidance to one or two Associates. This role involves collaboration with subject matter experts to consult with clients, conduct examinations, perform testing and analysis, and prepare comprehensive engineering reports and findings in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical investigations, projects, and tasks, including the design and execution of desk studies and field investigations.
- Mentor and supervise one or two Associates during investigation assignments, contributing to their performance evaluations and development planning.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates throughout the investigation process.
- Coordinate with Fire and Police Departments to gather information pertinent to investigations.
- Uphold the firm’s Strategic Plan and core values while developing testing and analysis protocols.
- Engage in business development activities and promote market growth opportunities, including participation in industry seminars and events.
- Achieve technical independence on all aspects of investigations.
- Conduct site examinations related to loss or failure incidents.
- Test the operation of systems and equipment.
- Effectively present investigation findings to clients and stakeholders in various settings.
- Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
- Assist in the creation of engineering drawings and simulations based on field data and calculations.
- Compile technical reports grounded in thorough investigations and analyses.
- Manage projects according to client-approved scopes, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of high-quality reports.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as required.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, with a focus on investigations involving combustible gases and/or liquids.
- Current registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and APEGA.
- Certification as a Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) is required.
- Additional certifications such as CVFI, CFI, WETT, G1 LP, GPI are preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards, including NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033.
- Experience in a consulting environment with a strong foundation in applying engineering principles to complex problems.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are essential.
- Exceptional technical writing skills are required.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with clients.
