Position Summary

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this role plays a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of Seneca's campuses by performing a wide range of tasks related to plumbing and mechanical systems. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various building systems, including HVAC, water supply and drainage, and sanitary fixtures.

Responsibilities
  • Plumbing Expertise:
    • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures, encompassing storm, sanitary, and water piping systems.
    • Work with sinks, toilets, and other washroom fixtures, as well as water heaters, conditioners, softeners, filters, and plumbing appliances.
  • HVAC Proficiency:
    • Diagnose, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and install HVAC systems and equipment, including cooling, condensing water, heating, hot water, radiant, and forced air systems.
    • Inspect and maintain air handling units.
    • Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment (well water pumping/distribution systems, piping, and controls).
    • Install, repair, and maintain sewage treatment equipment (collection and distribution systems, piping, and controls).
  • Additional Duties:
    • Manage inventory control, including ordering parts and updating logs.
    • Coordinate contracted trades when required.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned, including minor tasks of other trades where certification is not required and work does not exceed your capabilities.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Trade certification or equivalent from the Ontario Ministry of Skills and Development certificate of qualifications as a Plumber (Construction and Maintenance 306a), along with the completion of an associated 4-year apprenticeship is required.

Experience:

  • 3 years' experience following plumbing licensing.
  • Knowledge of HVAC principles as applied to a typical building environment.
  • Experience in a commercial or institutional setting with mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Experience in the installation and/or maintenance of all types of sanitary and plumbing equipment and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to interpret building mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of steam supplied HVAC systems.
  • Basic computer literacy is required.
