TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking to recruit Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Successful candidates who complete this training will qualify to register as Care Aides with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. By accepting this training opportunity, candidates commit to working with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as regular Care Aides for a period of 12 months following graduation. The funding for this program will cover 100% of wages, tuition, and educational materials during the training phase. Candidates will be assigned to educational institutions based on available seating.

Salary

The compensation for this role is CAD $24.80 per hour.

Job Overview

Work as a Health Care Support Worker and obtain your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

Vancouver Coastal Health is actively looking for Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be eligible for registration as Care Aides with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.

The Community Health (HCAP Home Support) program entails a commitment of approximately 1.5 years. Candidates are expected to be available for 37.5 hours per week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the program. Additionally, candidates may work as health care support workers for up to 12 days prior to commencing their educational training. The educational component of the program typically spans eight months. After graduation, employees must adhere to the Return of Service Agreement for a duration of 12 months.

Funding will encompass 100% of wages, tuition, and educational materials during the training program.

As an applicant for this position, you will be considered for placement at Home Support sites across VCH for various cohorts. Assignments will be made based on seat availability.

As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another licensed healthcare professional.
  • Providing a range of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare support to clients, residents, families, and/or visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home environments in accordance with established care plans and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Proof of completion of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
  • For applicants with three years of full-time instruction in English: completion of English 10 or equivalent. For those with less than three years of full-time instruction in English: a standardized English language proficiency test score may be required. If English is not your first language, an English test may be necessary.
  • A valid BC Driver's License is required. Local travel necessitates the use of a personal vehicle (for specific regions only).

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact positively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
