TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking individuals to fill the role of Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Successful candidates will have the opportunity to complete a training program that qualifies them to register as Care Aides with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. By accepting this training opportunity, candidates commit to working with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as regular Care Aides for a duration of 12 months following graduation. The program will cover 100% of wages, tuition, and required materials during the training phase. Candidates will be assigned to educational institutions based on available seating.

Salary

The compensation for this position is CAD $24.80 per hour.

Job Overview

Become a Health Care Support Worker and gain your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

The Community Health (HCAP Home Support) program entails a commitment of approximately 1.5 years. Successful candidates are expected to be available for 37.5 hours per week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the program. Additionally, candidates may work as health care support workers for up to 12 days prior to the commencement of their training. The educational component of the program typically spans eight months, after which employees must adhere to the Return of Service Agreement for 12 months.

Funding will cover 100% of wages, tuition, and materials during the training program.

As an applicant for this position, you will be considered for placements at Home Support sites across VCH for various cohorts.

Responsibilities of a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health include:

  • Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another licensed healthcare professional.
  • Providing a range of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare support to clients, residents, families, and visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home environments, following established care plans and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Proof of completion of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
  • For candidates with three years of full-time English instruction: completion of English 10 or equivalent. For those with less than three years of full-time English instruction: a standardized English language proficiency test score may be required. If English is not your first language, an English test may be necessary.
  • A valid BC Driver's License is required for local travel, which necessitates the use of a personal vehicle (for specific regions).

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties associated with the position.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.

Important Information

Work hours, including days off and work locations, may be subject to change based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable laws. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.

In accordance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
