Chemistry Laboratory Facilitator

Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Lab Demonstrator and the Department Chair, this role is integral to the preparation and execution of chemistry laboratory experiments across various college-level chemistry courses. The individual in this position will also oversee the general upkeep of laboratory supplies, equipment, and demonstration kits. Additionally, participation in the creation of new laboratory exercises may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and delivery of engaging chemistry laboratory experiments.
  • Maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Collaboration in the development of innovative laboratory exercises.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemistry is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a chemistry laboratory setting, including the management of supplies and equipment.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be evaluated.
  • Familiarity with health and safety protocols, including WHMIS standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of first and second-year chemistry concepts and laboratory methodologies.
  • Proficient in operating relevant laboratory equipment, including computer-operated instruments.
  • Experience in providing instructional support within a chemistry laboratory context.
  • Competence in using various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct and demonstrate equipment usage to students.
  • Capacity to build and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply departmental policies and technical materials.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in supervising and leading others effectively.
  • Capability to manage potentially hazardous situations with composure.
  • Demonstrated initiative and responsibility in the workplace.

Working Conditions:

  • Flexibility in working hours is essential, as evening courses are often scheduled.
