Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Capital Asset Accounting Specialist to join our team at Trans Mountain. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date capital asset records, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and analyzing financial data to inform business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post depreciation and AFUDC/IDC entries, and reconcile balances in the fixed asset subledger to the summary-level/control accounts in the general ledger.
  • Closely monitor and analyze project close outs to record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system, ensuring proper assignment of financial dimensions, CER codes, AFUDC/IDC.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on Trans Mountain's capital expenditures, including comparisons to budgets and forecasts, and ad hoc requests as required.
  • Assist with asset record clean up, ensuring all records are complete and periodically meet with asset owners to ensure assets are still in use.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with accounting guidance, rate regulated guidance (CER, FERC, OPUAR), and internal policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a related position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Enrolled in or completion of CPA Professional Accounting Designation would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with accounting processes and internal control concepts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Previous knowledge of Microsoft D365 and Pims systems would be an asset.
