Lead Capital Accounting Specialist

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supports property and capital financial reporting and accounting functions to ensure timely and precise period-end closures (monthly, quarterly, annual).
- Conducts reconciliations and analyses of the General Ledger, Asset sub-ledger, and Regulatory sub-ledger associated with Capital and Properties.
- Prepares Regulatory (STB) and Tax reporting, including reconciliation and analysis, along with quarterly and annual submissions to comply with Regulatory and Tax obligations regarding Capital and Properties.
- Assists in the formulation, development, and execution of annual Group Depreciation studies for both Canadian and US operations.
- Implements process controls and contributes to ongoing improvement initiatives to optimize systems and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with Property and Capital related US GAAP accounting standards.
- Enhances and maintains documentation of processes for Capital and Property Accounting responsibilities and deliverables.
- Engages in Capital and Property Accounting projects as necessary.
- Provides accounting guidance and insights for significant Capital and Property transactions.
- Fosters effective relationships with various internal stakeholders to facilitate the accounting and reporting process (Project Accounting, Tax, Regulatory Reporting, Information Systems, Operations, Corporate Reporting, etc.).
- Assists both external and internal auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits of financial statements, including the preparation of working papers and all related documentation and deliverables pertaining to Capital and Properties.
- Embodies the Vision, Values, and Culture of CPKC in every interaction with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or other relevant disciplines.
- Accounting designation such as CFA, CPA (CA/CMA/CGA).
- A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in accounting.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Capacity to establish and meet deadlines while working independently in a dynamic environment.
