Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team at Fraser Health Authority. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide direct patient care, assess patients, and develop and implement individualized care plans. Your expertise and passion for delivering high-quality patient care will make a significant difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess patients and collect information from various sources to inform nursing diagnoses and develop effective care plans.
  2. Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to promote person-centered care, patient advocacy, and empowerment.
  3. Participate in the care and discharge planning process, ensuring seamless transitions and effective communication.
  4. Coordinate nursing care, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities to support staff as needed.
  5. Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans, and address changes in patient condition.
  6. Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance to support self-care and discharge planning.
  7. Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, patient responses, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  8. Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned or agreed upon with the Manager.
  9. Engage in research and quality improvement activities to identify patient care issues, collect data, and recommend corrective actions and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.
  10. Participate in in-services and educational programs to maintain and update clinical competence and knowledge within the area of practice.
  11. Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students, sharing information and demonstrating care activities.
  12. Provide feedback to the Manager or delegate regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs, policy, and clinical decision support tools.
Qualifications

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable post-graduate coursework in emergency or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in emergency.

Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment, provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Ability to promote person-centered care, integrate and evaluate data, teach and instruct patients, and prioritize work. Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team. Ability to use factual information, prior learning, and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice. Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
