Registered Nurse, Maternity Care Unit

Position Overview: The Registered Nurse in the Maternity Care Unit is tasked with delivering exceptional nursing care to mothers, newborns, and their families. This role is pivotal in ensuring that care aligns with the core values and mission of the health organization.

Responsibilities:

The Nurse will report directly to the Unit Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Implementing evidence-based practices in family-centered care.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care throughout the birthing process.
  • Providing support and education to families during the intrapartum and postpartum periods.
  • Maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for patients and their families.
Work Schedule:

Shifts will vary between 7.5 to 11.25 hours based on operational needs, primarily Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the relevant nursing authority.
  • Completion of a perioperative nursing course is necessary, or a commitment to complete it within two years of employment.
  • Recent experience in intrapartum nursing is essential.
  • Experience in a Birth Unit is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in OR and/or PACU is beneficial.
  • ICU/CCU training is a plus.
  • Current certifications in BCLS, NRP, and ACLS are mandatory.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills are essential.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to facilitate change are necessary.
  • Ability to create an empowering environment for team members is crucial.
  • Knowledge of family-centered care principles is required.
  • Competency in additional languages is an asset.

Note: This position is part of a nursing bargaining unit, and preference will be given to current bargaining unit employees for unionized roles. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of background checks and verification of credentials.
