Position OverviewReporting to the Manager of the Family Newborn Care Unit, the Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role within an interdisciplinary care team, delivering holistic, evidence-based care tailored to the needs of individuals, families, and communities. The RN is responsible for leading nursing assessments and overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family care, with the aim of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health and preventing illness, injury, and disability.
The RN practices in accordance with the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice, relevant specialty standards, and the policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health Authority. The Registered Nurse is accountable for integrating current theory and research into the provision of family-centered nursing care for postpartum women, infants, and their families, consistent with the organization’s philosophy, vision, objectives, and mission.
Work Schedule11.25 hour shifts; two (2) days, two (2) nights, followed by five (5) days off.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required (candidates with equivalent experience and education may be considered).
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, completed within the last 12 months, is required.
- Preferred experience in mother-baby nursing.
- Successful candidates will be expected to orient to all responsibilities within the Family Newborn Care Unit (Post Partum, Follow-Up Clinic, Team Lead).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is an asset.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification is considered an asset.
- A strong understanding of and commitment to family-centered maternity care and mother-baby nursing is essential.
- Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
