Position Overview

As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals facing challenges related to addiction. This temporary position requires a commitment of 22.5 to 37.5 hours per week and necessitates a Master's degree along with 2 to 3 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

Your primary workplace will be within counseling centers, where you will collaborate with a team of health care professionals to create effective treatment strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult with interdisciplinary teams to assess and refine treatment plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of counseling sessions and patient progress.
  • Conduct client interviews, compile case histories, and identify key issues.
  • Document observations and maintain accurate records of client interactions.
  • Review and analyze reports from other health care providers to gauge client functioning.
  • Utilize standardized psychological assessments to inform treatment approaches.
  • Draft detailed progress reports and individualized treatment plans.
  • Educate clients on health promotion, injury prevention, and management strategies.
  • Facilitate therapeutic sessions for individuals and groups to foster personal and social development.
  • Implement and adjust treatment plans based on client needs.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties to support counseling operations.
  • Analyze client behavior throughout the treatment process.
  • Apply psychological principles to enhance client understanding of their conditions.
  • Design and execute counseling programs aimed at helping clients set and achieve personal goals.
  • Provide therapy, mediation services, and lead group discussions.
  • Coordinate with community agencies to identify additional support services.
  • Offer public education and professional consultation on counseling practices.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • Certifications: Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification, Mental Health First Aid Certificate, First Aid Certificate.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Windows, and MS Word.
  • Experience in Treatment Modalities: Knowledge in behavioral therapy, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy.
