Unit Overview

The Respiratory Therapy division at Hamilton Health Sciences is comprised of a dedicated team with specialized expertise aimed at addressing the respiratory requirements of a diverse range of patient populations across various clinical programs and Regional Programs in South Central Ontario.

Position Overview

Key responsibilities encompass:

  • Providing specialized care in the ICU E/S 27, a 27-bed unit catering to neurosciences, trauma, medical, vascular, and surgical patients.
  • Working in the ICU W, a 14-bed cardiovascular surgical unit.
  • Delivering care in the CCU, a 16-bed unit, and the Regional Burn Unit.
  • Supporting the HIU and Emergency departments.
  • Collaborating with physicians to operate the Hyperbaric Unit for both scheduled and emergency hyperbaric treatments.
  • Participating as a member of the site RACE team alongside physicians and registered nurses.
  • Contributing as a vital member of the Code Blue team.

The Respiratory Therapy department employs a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, emphasizing patient- and family-centered care principles.

Work Schedule

Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  1. A degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  2. Current General Registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
  3. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) examination.
  4. Valid BCLS and ACLS certifications.
  5. A minimum of three years of recent experience in an adult critical care environment.
  6. Proven skills in ECG interpretation, pressure monitoring, airway management, and mechanical ventilation.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas sampling, and tracheostomy management.
  8. Comprehensive knowledge of respiratory care and critical management for adult patients.
  9. Familiarity with respiratory, resuscitation, and anesthesia-related equipment.
  10. Ability to perform venipuncture and vascular access procedures.

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination must be submitted to Employee Health Services.
