The Alma Mater Society (AMS) of the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking an experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join our Catering and Conferences team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for assisting in the oversight of both in-house and off-site catering operations, as well as conference and meeting space.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in the planning and execution of catering events, including menu planning, inventory management, and staff supervision.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients, ensuring timely and professional service delivery.
- Collaborate with the Catering and Conferences Operations Manager to develop and implement operational strategies, ensuring ongoing financial success of the department.
- Supervise and train Event Leads, Associates, and Delivery Drivers, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Manage daily, weekly, and monthly records of cash reconciliation, catering summaries, costing, and month-end journal entries.
- Actively manage HR-related responsibilities, including hiring, scheduling, training, briefing, mentoring, developing, evaluating, and disciplining employees.
- Minimum 2 years of food service management experience, preferably in a hospitality or catering environment.
- Valid BC driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to perform shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and be on call as required.
- Food Safe level 1 certification and Serving-It-Right certification.
- Proficient in Caterease Event Management software and intermediate computer skills with knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Language: Required to speak, read, and write English, with fluency in other languages being an asset.
The AMS of UBC offers a competitive salary range of $48,000.00 - $53,000.00 per annum, plus gratuities. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a generous paid time off policy.
