OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The Property Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity of policies, procedures, and processes related to accounting and reporting activities for Property and Capital Accounting, with a focus on continuous enhancement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the management of CPKC's property and capital accounting and reporting, along with improvement initiatives.
  • Actively seeks to enhance efficiencies and improvements within the property and capital accounting team by identifying risks and opportunities, and designing and implementing strategies to address gaps.
  • Collaborates with team members and stakeholders to develop and execute detailed plans aimed at improving accounting and reporting processes.
  • Reviews and manages team outputs, including reconciliations, financial statement disclosures, and monthly and quarterly analyses.
  • Ensures compliance with Property and Asset-related US GAAP accounting standards.
  • Leads the preparation, development, and implementation of annual group depreciation studies for operations in Canada, the US, and Mexico, including the integration of processes, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Facilitates the integration of property and capital accounting and reporting systems (SAP ECC and S4, and Powerplan).
  • Assesses the impact of improvement initiatives on property accounting deliverables for Regulatory and Tax Reporting.
  • Maintains effective relationships with various internal stakeholders who support the accounting and reporting process (Project Accounting, Tax, Regulatory Reporting, Information Systems, Operations, Corporate Reporting, etc.).
  • Provides accounting support and recommendations for significant property transactions.
  • Ensures that accounting and reporting processes adhere to applicable Internal Control (SOX) requirements.
  • Addresses and responds to inquiries from auditors and internal reviewers.
  • Fosters an environment that encourages the professional development of team members.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Accounting Designation required (CPA; CPA, CA).
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Familiarity with accounting standards and regulatory requirements applicable to public companies.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
