ROLE OBJECTIVE

The Property Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of policies, procedures, and processes related to accounting and reporting activities for Property/Capital Accounting, with a focus on continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the management of CPKC's property and capital accounting and reporting, along with improvement initiatives.
  • Actively pursue new efficiencies and enhancements in property and capital accounting team deliverables by identifying risks and opportunities and developing strategies to address them.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to formulate and implement detailed plans aimed at improving accounting and reporting processes.
  • Review and manage team outputs, including reconciliations, financial statement disclosures, and monthly and quarterly analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with Property and Asset-related US GAAP accounting standards.
  • Coordinate the preparation, development, and execution of annual group depreciation studies for operations in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, integrating processes, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Facilitate the integration of property and capital accounting and reporting systems (SAP ECC and S4, and Powerplan).
  • Assess the impact of improvement initiatives on property accounting deliverables for Regulatory and Tax Reporting.
  • Maintain effective relationships with various internal stakeholders who support the accounting and reporting process (Project Accounting, Tax, Regulatory Reporting, Information Systems, Operations, Corporate Reporting, etc.).
  • Provide accounting support and recommendations for significant property transactions.
  • Ensure that accounting and reporting processes adhere to applicable Internal Control (SOX) requirements.
  • Address and respond to inquiries from auditors and internal reviewers.
  • Foster an environment that promotes the development of team members.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Required Accounting Designation (CPA; CPA, CA).
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements applicable to public companies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
