Job Summary

The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Projects Officer to join its team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of Indigenous curriculum and pedagogies at the University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior leaders on promoting and embedding Indigenous pedagogies into University courses and programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase Indigenous knowledge and curriculum in University courses.
  • Manage complex issues and resolve problems related to Indigenous education.
  • Organize and lead consultation activities to advance University Indigenous initiatives and strategies.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to advance projects and initiatives that support the University's Calls to Action.
  • Conduct research and develop resources related to Indigenous ways of knowing and pedagogy.
  • Tailor programming and workshops to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Develop evaluation models for existing and new programming.
Requirements
  • University degree required; professional or post-graduate degree an asset.
  • Minimum six years of project management experience and four years of related experience working within Indigenous communities.
  • Extensive experience in Indigenous community relations, Indigenous knowledges, and Indigenous curriculum and education.
  • Excellent understanding of the University's mission and its intersection with broader Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge about the legacy and ongoing impacts of colonialism and the ability to apply the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Final Report and Calls to Action within an educational context.
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols to engage and foster respectful relationships with local Elders and Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or engagement in scholarship related to educational development and/or Indigenous scholarship.
  • Experience with university-level instruction, program planning, facilitation, consultation, curriculum development, and faculty development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; facilitation and presentation skills; consultative decision-making skills; organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
