Course Synopsis:

This course serves as an introduction to the methodologies of second language instruction, particularly focusing on the French language. Participants will explore essential pedagogical concepts and analyze the teaching and learning dynamics between first and second language learners. The course will also emphasize the roles of educators and students through the development of linguistic profiles and educational resources.

Projected Class Size: 45

Teaching Assistant Support: To Be Determined

Class Schedule: Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Instruction Mode: The course is anticipated to be conducted in-person. Should there be any changes, advance notice will be provided as feasible.

Appointment Duration: September 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024

Compensation:

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 (inclusive of vacation pay, 0.5 FCE)

Please be aware that if the rates in the collective agreement differ from those listed here, the collective agreement rates will take precedence.

Essential Qualifications:

PhD in Education or a closely related discipline.
Proven experience teaching university-level courses in second language pedagogy with an emphasis on French.
(Near-)native proficiency in both spoken and written French.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a closely related subject.
Familiarity with the Ontario Public School French curriculum.
Preference will be given to candidates who have achieved the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III as per Article 14:12.

Responsibilities:

All standard responsibilities associated with the design and instruction of a university credit course, including:
- Preparation and delivery of course content
- Engagement with students outside of class via email and office hours
- Development, administration, and grading of assignments, tests, and examinations
- Calculation and submission of final grades
- Procurement of necessary reading materials
- Supervision of any assigned teaching assistants.
