Role Overview: As a key member of the Observability team, you will oversee the management and operation of our logging and metrics systems. Your role is crucial in ensuring that all Lyft teams maintain awareness of their product's operational health through effective monitoring of system performance. You will develop software and platforms aimed at automating infrastructure operations and management, identifying areas for improvement through comprehensive measurement and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical guidance within the team, exemplifying best practices in developing scalable and efficient observability solutions.
  • Facilitate collaboration across engineering teams to enhance Lyft's observability capabilities, aligning them with business goals and developer needs.
  • Influence the strategic direction of the observability roadmap, leveraging a deep understanding of business context to drive key initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and deploy advanced tools and systems that improve the reliability and efficiency of our infrastructure.
  • Utilize industry best practices to operate and enhance our infrastructure, establishing high standards for performance.
  • Document operational processes and insights, identify repetitive tasks, and lead automation efforts.
  • Engage in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and provide expert support to mitigate customer-impacting events.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, automation, and systems engineering, showcasing a proven track record of technical leadership.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field, with a solid understanding of observability principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architecting and scaling observability infrastructure for comprehensive monitoring in large production environments.
  • Advanced skills in producing production-ready code in languages such as Go and Python.
  • Extensive experience managing large-scale infrastructure in public cloud environments, including AWS, and utilizing Managed Services like Amazon OpenSearch Service.
  • Deep familiarity with Kubernetes and Envoy Proxy, particularly in multi-cluster production settings.
  • Knowledge of distributed storage technologies, including S3, RDS, DynamoDB, and configuration systems like Zookeeper.
  • Expertise in deploying and managing large-scale monitoring, alerting, and logging systems, such as Prometheus and Grafana.
