Position Overview
North Island College is in search of qualified candidates to fill sessional instructional roles for the upcoming term:

- DGL 105 CVS1 Digital Graphics, In-Person, Tuesday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm;
- DGL 105 CVS2 Digital Graphics, In-Person, Thursday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Please specify the courses and sections you wish to apply for in your cover letter. Each section represents 25% of a full-time instructional role.

The teaching staff at North Island College is tasked with realizing the College's vision, goals, and objectives concerning education and learning.

To fulfill their teaching responsibilities, faculty members utilize organizational skills, interpersonal abilities, and expertise in the subject matter, teaching methods, and curriculum design.

They also serve as role models for both students and colleagues.


The duties and responsibilities outlined below represent a general job description for teaching faculty, whose roles may include delivering scheduled classes, supporting self-paced, online, and distance learning courses, and/or providing instruction and supervision in labs and practical workshops.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.0 INSTRUCTIONAL
  • To design and prepare educational materials for instructional settings;
  • To employ diverse approaches and resources, as suitable, to cater to various learning needs;
  • To instruct in designated subject areas and ensure that all required content is included in courses and outlines;
  • To guide student learning in a supportive and encouraging environment;
  • To be accessible to students during scheduled office and classroom hours to discuss their progress and any learning-related issues;
  • To clearly articulate learning outcomes for programs and courses, along with the evaluation methods;
  • To develop and administer assessments of students and keep them informed of their progress;
  • To submit grades promptly, in accordance with College policies;
  • To maintain records of student enrollment and performance, as well as other documentation required by the College and affiliated organizations.
2.0 TYPICAL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY
  • To remain informed about and adhere to College educational policies;
  • To understand the Educational and Strategic plans and contribute to their development and success;
  • To inform the Department Chair in a timely manner about necessary orders for books, supplies, and equipment;
  • To advise the Department Chair on strategies for enrollment management (recruitment and retention);
  • To report any health and safety concerns to the Department Chair and assist in resolving issues;
  • To demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer applications for the teaching environment;
  • To engage in ongoing professional development to maintain competencies and qualifications in the relevant discipline;
  • To actively participate as a member of the College community on committees and other activities, as appropriate;
  • To attend department meetings and participate in departmental activities during regular working hours, when feasible;
  • To undertake additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the College when course load allows.
Required Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent professional experience, along with demonstrated competencies related to the course curriculum;
  • Three years of successful, relevant industry experience and/or teaching experience at a postsecondary level.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with current industry-standard tools and technologies related to Communication Design;
  • Proven instructional abilities, employing a variety of creative and engaging methods to foster learning;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines efficiently.
Demonstrated Knowledge and Skills in Course-Specific Areas:
  • Technical expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, along with familiarity with design tools such as Canva;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in contemporary applications of Graphic and Communication design, including branding, marketing, publication design, interactive design, and current theories and strategies;
  • Proficient in design thinking and processes across all aspects of design, including application of theories, research techniques, methodologies, and strategies;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in both traditional and modern print production techniques and practices.
