Position Overview
North Island College is in search of qualified candidates to fill sessional instructional roles for the upcoming term:

- DGL 105 CVS1 Digital Graphics, In-Person, Tuesday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm;
- DGL 105 CVS2 Digital Graphics, In-Person, Thursday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

The teaching staff at North Island College is accountable for executing the College's vision, goals, and objectives pertaining to education and learning.

To fulfill their teaching responsibilities, faculty members employ organizational skills, interpersonal abilities, and expertise in the subject matter, pedagogy, and curriculum design.

They also serve as role models for both students and colleagues.


The responsibilities and typical duties outlined below provide a general job description for teaching faculty, who may be tasked with delivering scheduled classes, supporting self-paced, online, and distance learning courses, and/or providing instruction and supervision in laboratories and practical workshops.

Duties & Responsibilities
1.0 INSTRUCTIONAL
  • Prepare and organize educational materials for instructional settings;
  • Utilize diverse approaches and resources to accommodate various learning needs;
  • Instruct in designated subject areas, ensuring all necessary content is included in courses and outlines;
  • Guide student learning in a supportive and nurturing environment;
  • Maintain regular availability for students during scheduled office and classroom hours to discuss their progress and any learning-related issues;
  • Clearly articulate learning outcomes for programs and courses, along with evaluation methods;
  • Design and implement assessments of student performance and keep students informed of their progress;
  • Submit grades promptly, adhering to College policies;
  • Maintain records of student enrollment and performance, and submit these records to the department Chair upon completion of employment.
2.0 TYPICAL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY

  • Stay informed about and adhere to College educational policies;
  • Understand the Education and Strategic plans, contributing to their development and assisting in achieving their goals;
  • Advise the Department Chair on necessary orders for books, supplies, and equipment to ensure adequate inventories for courses;
  • Provide insights to the Department Chair regarding enrollment management strategies;
  • Report any health and safety concerns to the Department Chair and assist in resolving issues;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer applications for the teaching environment;
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain competencies and qualifications in the relevant discipline;
  • Actively participate as a contributing member of the College community on committees and other activities;
  • Attend department meetings and engage in departmental activities during normal working hours, when feasible;
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the College when course load permits.
Required Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience, along with demonstrated competencies related to the course curriculum;
  • Three years of successful, relevant industry experience and/or teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with current industry-standard tools and technologies related to Communication Design;
  • Demonstrated exceptional instructional abilities, employing a variety of creative and engaging methods to foster learning;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines efficiently.
Demonstrated Knowledge and Skills in Course-Specific Areas:
DGL 105 Digital Graphics
  • Technical proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, along with knowledge of related design tools;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in contemporary applications of Graphic and Communication design, including branding, marketing, publication design, and interactive design;
  • Advanced skills in design thinking and processes throughout all stages of the design workflow;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in traditional and modern print production techniques and practices.
