STATUS: Full Time Support

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this role will work under the supervision of the Manager of Academic Operations within the School of Construction Management. The primary responsibility includes assisting in the upkeep of surveying tools and facilities utilized by students during practical field exercises. In the GIS/geomatics lab, the technician will ensure that all plotters, computers, and scanners are functioning optimally. The role also involves managing the daily input and maintenance of electronic files in the GIS/geomatics lab.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in preparing equipment necessary for fieldwork under the direction of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures by students. Demonstrate the use of levelling tools, total stations, GPS, and other surveying instruments. Support student learning by reinforcing concepts and skills presented by instructors, as well as reviewing and clarifying calculations used in both lab and field settings. Assist professors in evaluating student performance when requested. Collaborate with faculty to trial new field activities. Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment in accordance with safety protocols. Provide input regarding preventative maintenance schedules and equipment renewal plans to the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist. Offer routine technical assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators within the school. Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering. A minimum of two years' experience in construction layouts, levelling, total stations, electronic digital theodolite, GPS equipment, route surveying, and survey/GIS software.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Strong prioritization, time management, coordination, and organizational skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities at a professional level. A demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities regarding diversity and equity.
