Position Overview:

The Surveying and Geomatics Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the educational endeavors of students within the School of Construction Management. Under the supervision of the Manager of Academic Operations and the guidance of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist, this position is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of surveying instruments and facilities utilized in practical field exercises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of equipment necessary for fieldwork under the direction of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures among students during practical sessions.
  • Demonstrate the use of surveying instruments such as levelling tools, total stations, and GPS devices.
  • Facilitate student learning by reinforcing concepts and skills presented by faculty, while also clarifying calculations used in both laboratory and field settings.
  • Collaborate with professors to evaluate student performance when requested.
  • Participate in the testing of new field activities in conjunction with faculty members.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment in accordance with safety standards.
  • Provide insights to the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist regarding maintenance schedules and equipment renewal strategies.
  • Offer routine technical assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators within the school.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in construction layouts and the use of surveying equipment.
