The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking candidates for the Aquatic Supervisor Student role for the upcoming summer season. This position is essential for ensuring the effective execution of aquatic programs and maintaining high standards of safety and service.

Position Overview

The Aquatic Supervisor Student will oversee the implementation of aquatic programs, manage staff schedules, and ensure compliance with municipal recreation policies and aquatic safety procedures. This role requires a proactive approach to customer service and a commitment to fostering a positive environment for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

Uphold the core values and competencies of Chatham-Kent Lead and mentor a team of student staff in a dynamic environment Conduct weekly training sessions and evaluate staff performance Foster a collaborative team atmosphere, providing guidance and support Attend all necessary aquatic training sessions and meetings Maintain certifications and pursue additional training opportunities Supervise swim sessions with a focus on preventing incidents Instruct various aquatic programs, emphasizing safety, skill development, and enjoyment Ensure lifesaving equipment is in good condition and ready for use Execute first aid and rescue techniques in accordance with established emergency protocols Adhere to the policies outlined in the CKRec Aquatic Manual Maintain a positive public image and address concerns from patrons Assist in pre-season training for all aquatic personnel Oversee the delivery and management of aquatic programs and services Lead activities and programs with enthusiasm and energy Enforce pool regulations consistently and tactfully Supervise and implement aquatic programs with a focus on engagement Responsible for the opening, closing, and maintenance of the aquatic facility Keep accurate records of daily operations, incidents, and program participation Contribute to the final report and budget recommendations Work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, with flexible hours

Required Qualifications

Preference will be given to students in their final year of high school or those enrolled in post-secondary education, with relevant experience in a pool setting Experience in conducting staff evaluations is advantageous

Certifications Required

LSSC Swim Instructor certification Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' certification compliant with WSIB regulations LSSC National Lifeguard – Pool or Red Cross Pool Lifeguard certification High Five: Principles of Healthy Child Development certification LSSC Lifesaving Instructor certification is a plus CALA / Water Art Certification is beneficial LSSC Examiner Status is an asset

Additional Information

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent encourages vaccination against COVID-19, although it is not a mandatory requirement for employment.

Driver's License and Vehicle

A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are preferred due to the nature of the position.

Background Check

Candidates must provide a Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to starting employment, as the role involves working with vulnerable populations.

Physical Requirements

Must meet physical standards for lifeguarding throughout employment Adhere to safety protocols, including proper footwear and PPE Complete Health & Safety Training for Supervisors Practice sun safety and hydration Maintain appropriate footwear for aquatic environments Capable of frequent bending, walking, and sitting as required by the role
