Aquatic Lifeguard/Instructor Position

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill the Aquatic Lifeguard/Instructor Student position for the summer of 2024.
Job SummaryThis role involves providing supervision, public education, and prevention while guarding the pool and deck environment. Instructors will provide swimming lesson instruction that follows the Lifesaving Society programs and instruction of the delivery of aquatic fitness.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic fitness classes, swimming lessons, and coached programs following guidelines and expectations for positive outcomes
- Perform guarding to a National Lifeguard or Red Cross Pool Lifeguard standard during swims and rentals following policies and Health and Safety standards for prevention of injury
- Assist with birthday parties and community events as required
- Provide customer service as the Front Desk Attendant
- Some secondary school education, with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience
- Knowledge of and experience with injury prevention practices, as well as health and safety practices
- Excellent customer service skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
- Basic computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)
- Previous Lifeguard/Aquatic experience working at a public pool or other environment an asset
- Previous aquatic leadership/supervision experience an asset
- Experience in dealing/working with community user demographics (preschool, youth, adult, senior) an asset
- LSSC Swim Instructor certification
- Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' certification that meets WSIB regulations
- LSSC National Lifeguard – Pool or Red Cross Pool Lifeguard certification
This position works weekday, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
COVID-19 VaccinationThe Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Background Check RequirementsSuccessful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check.
Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements- Physical NL standards or Red Cross Lifeguarding standards to be kept up through-out employment (wearing proper footwear and PPE)
