The Faculty of Arts & Science is seeking applications for the following anticipated course offering:
Course Title: Intro to Material Science (0.5 credit)
Course Description: This course offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the structure, properties, and applications of both traditional and contemporary materials utilized in art and design. It covers a range of materials including pigments, metals, ceramics, glass, polymers, and emerging materials, placing them within the historical context of technological advancements. The course will examine the physical, optical, and chemical properties of materials, as well as their environmental sustainability, guiding material selection in design and artistic practice.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Developing course outlines and preparing for studio delivery, including lectures and critiques.
- Conducting grading, mid-term evaluations, and final assessments.
- Ensuring health and safety standards are met and adhering to academic requirements.
Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in art, design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in post-secondary teaching is preferred; relevant experience will also be considered.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven leadership in fostering an inclusive and respectful educational environment.
Terms of Employment: Sessional appointments are fixed-term contracts with compensation based on a per-course pay scale, including a percentage for benefits and vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act. These positions are contingent upon budget approval and satisfactory enrollment levels.
