Responsibilities
  • Develop expertise in exploratory data analysis, execute it, and convey insights effectively.
  • Prepare datasets for visualization and machine learning applications.
  • Train machine learning models utilizing data annotation and benchmarking methodologies.
  • Assist colleagues in evaluating AI/ML model performance and suggest avenues for potential enhancements.
  • Create data visualizations using leading industry tools to summarize findings for stakeholders.
  • Document your outcomes - narrate the journey of the work, the achievements, and the lessons learned for future reference.
  • Maintain an open mindset to leverage your unique skills and determination when new opportunities arise.

This position includes a unique opportunity. Based on successful initial contributions, the team member will have the chance to enhance their portfolio through a capstone project. During the final two months, a portion of their time will be dedicated to a design-focused initiative of value to PCL, chosen by them. Support will be provided while you:

  • Formulate a proposal
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to inform your work
  • Develop your prototype or visualization
  • Evaluate and present the outcomes
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a postsecondary educational program
  • Outstanding performance in a bachelor's program in engineering, computing, or mathematical sciences, or pursuing an MSc in a quantitative discipline. If your field of study differs, we encourage you to apply and explain why you would be a suitable candidate.
  • Strong analytical abilities – capacity to swiftly analyze data to uncover and visualize key insights, demonstrated through coursework, projects, or research involving large datasets.
  • Completion of coursework in statistics. Applied statistics and probability are central to this role: familiarity with regression models and clustering techniques is beneficial.
  • Prior experience with a statistical or scientific programming environment is advantageous. If lacking, you will gain familiarity during your time with us. We favor open-source technologies and utilize the Python scientific stack, R, PowerBI, and various data pipeline tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. You will interact with both domain experts and business personnel, making it crucial to communicate effectively with both groups as necessary.
