Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Counsel, Generalist to join our team at Definity. As a key member of our Legal department, you will play a critical role in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various types of agreements, including templates, non-disclosure, licenses, professional services, marketing, corporate services, and lease agreements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and draft agreements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Analyze and interpret complex legal matters, providing expert advice on legal issues, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and negotiation and contract management strategy.
  • Consult with other members of the Legal team to provide sound advice and drive consistency in Definity's approach to partnering with vendors and other third parties.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of our processes and systems for contracting and legal risk management.
  • Provide assistance for strategic initiatives as required.
Requirements
  • Law Degree from an accredited law school (LLB or Juris Doctor).
  • Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario to practice law as a lawyer in Ontario.
  • At least 3 years of post-call experience drafting and negotiating legal agreements, such as strategic partnerships, vendor agreements, goods and services, software and other licensing arrangements, service level agreements, cloud-based services, and other technology-related offerings.
  • Exposure to insurance or other financial institutions is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, research, and drafting skills, including the capacity to communicate with business partners in the way they want to be dealt with.
  • Outstanding judgment and ability to deal with complex issues and safeguard confidential information.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Willingness to build strong business relationships.
  • Exemplary professionalism and integrity.
  • Self-starter with a great attitude.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions, and the local labour market. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
