Agricultural Banking Consultant

As the Agricultural Banking Consultant, your responsibilities will include:
- Actively seeking and establishing connections with potential clients, particularly high-value small business customers and centers of influence (COIs). This role will involve specific targets for acquiring new clientele.
- Cultivating and sustaining partnerships with Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Agriculture Account Managers, and Wealth Partners to ensure a unified market strategy for Agriculture Services within your designated area.
- Building new relationships with Agriculture clients through participation in industry events and networking with local farmers, agricultural enterprises, COIs, and Scotiabank affiliates.
- Managing and expanding a portfolio as discussed with your Agriculture Market Lead, aimed at fostering market development activities. Regular monitoring of the portfolio will be essential, and you will be accountable for servicing and conducting annual reviews for assigned clients.
- Prioritizing the unique needs of businesses in the agricultural sector, aligning sales strategies, product offerings, risk policies, and market approaches to deliver tailored solutions. This role equips you to provide exceptional, responsive, and proactive service to agricultural business clients across various areas including accounts, operational services, credit, lending, and deposits.

- Experience in Canadian Agriculture, whether through education or professional involvement.
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics, or equivalent practical experience.
- A solid understanding of business financial statements, particularly within the Agriculture sector.
- Familiarity with competitor products and alternative financing options.
- Insight into economic trends and political factors impacting small businesses, especially in Agriculture.
- Proven achievements in sales, marketing, and business development.
- The capability to foster and maintain essential relationships, alongside the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders. Strong tactical planning, implementation, and organizational skills are crucial, along with a high degree of adaptability to various tasks and responsibilities.
- The potential to become a trusted advisor to clients by identifying their underlying challenges and proposing comprehensive solutions that deliver value through collaboration with both the Agriculture team and our internal partners.

To excel in this role, you will need to:
- Champion a customer-centric culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader banking connections.
- Expand the Business Banking agriculture portfolio through new rural business acquisitions while maintaining an acceptable risk level.
- Utilize your skills to plan and execute relationship-building activities that generate sales and revenue opportunities for new business.
- Provide specialized expertise in Agriculture and business/finance advice that enhances the success of small business owners.
- Actively promote Scotiabank's reputation within the agricultural community by participating in and leading local business groups and market events.
- Effectively authorize, renew, or decline customer requests in accordance with established bank policies and authorized limits.
- Ensure all documentation is accurately prepared and that accounts comply with authorization conditions.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and culture should inform daily activities and decision-making.
This role will require significant travel away from an office environment to conduct sales and marketing activities on customer farms, at trade shows, and during COI events. Travel may occur in challenging weather conditions, which adds to the risk of injury. Client needs are frequent and may extend beyond regular office hours. A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle are necessary, with mileage reimbursement provided.
