Agricultural Banking Consultant

As the Agricultural Banking Consultant, your responsibilities will include:
- Actively seeking and establishing connections with potential clients, including high-value small business customers and centers of influence (COIs). This role involves meeting targets for acquiring new clientele.
- Building and nurturing partnerships with Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Agriculture Account Managers, and Wealth Partners to ensure a unified market strategy for Agriculture Services within your designated area.
- Cultivating new relationships with agricultural clients through participation in industry events and networking with local farmers, agricultural enterprises, COIs, and Scotiabank affiliates.
- Managing and expanding a portfolio assigned in collaboration with your Agriculture Market Lead, aimed at supporting market development initiatives. Regular monitoring of the portfolio will be conducted, and you will be accountable for client servicing and annual assessments.
- Addressing the specific needs of businesses in the agricultural sector by aligning sales strategies, product offerings, risk policies, and market approaches to deliver tailored solutions. This role prepares you to provide exceptional, responsive, and proactive service to agricultural business clients in areas such as accounts, operational services, credit, lending, and deposits.
We are eager to collaborate with you if you possess:
- Experience in Canadian Agriculture, whether through education or professional background.
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of business financial statements, particularly within the agricultural sector.
- Familiarity with competitor products and alternative financing options.
- Insight into economic conditions and political factors impacting small businesses, especially in agriculture.
- Proven track record in sales, marketing, and business development.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders. Strong planning, implementation, and organizational abilities are essential, along with a high degree of adaptability to diverse tasks.
- Capability to become a trusted advisor to clients by identifying their underlying challenges and proposing comprehensive solutions in collaboration with the Agriculture team and internal partners.

- Expand the Business Banking agriculture portfolio through new rural business acquisition while managing acceptable risk levels.
- Utilize your skills to plan and execute relationship-building activities that generate sales and revenue opportunities for new business.
- Provide specialized agricultural expertise and financial guidance that enhances the success of small business owners.
- Actively promote Scotiabank's presence within the agricultural community by participating in and leading local business groups and market events.
- Authorize, renew, or decline customer requests in accordance with established bank policies and limits.
- Ensure all documentation is accurately prepared and that accounts comply with authorization conditions.
- Understand the bank's risk appetite and culture, applying these principles in daily activities and decision-making.
Your role will involve significant travel away from a traditional office environment to engage in sales and marketing activities on customer farms, at trade shows, and during COI events. Travel requirements can be extensive and may occur in challenging weather conditions, adding to the risk of injury. Customer needs may arise frequently and sometimes outside of standard office hours. A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle are necessary, with mileage reimbursement provided.
