Counsellor/Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Counsellor/Mental Health Specialist to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our Health & Counselling Centre, you will provide critical support to students navigating mental health challenges, including those from diverse backgrounds and identities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, including those in crisis, and make referrals to appropriate resources as needed.
- Assess the mental health needs of clients and develop effective treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other departments and services to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
- Develop and deliver workshops and training programs to promote mental health awareness and support.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in mental health counselling and adhere to a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive framework.
- Master's degree in social work or counselling/psychotherapy and registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
- Minimum five years of clinical counselling experience, with a focus on working with diverse populations, including 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Experience with crisis counselling, brief or short-term therapy, and group work.
- Strong knowledge of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity-related concerns.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Experience working with post-secondary students and knowledge of university mental health resources.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record keeping and Stepped Care models.
- Life coaching, mindfulness-based therapies, and alternative evidence-based therapies experience.
