About the Role

The University of Ottawa seeks a highly motivated and experienced Strategic Facilities Management Leader to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and compliance of our diverse campus facilities. You will play a key part in shaping the future of our physical infrastructure by integrating strategic planning with operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Development & Compliance: Develop, implement, and monitor institutional policies, procedures, and programs related to facilities management. This includes ensuring alignment with relevant federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, as well as best practices in the field.
  • Risk Management & Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across all campus facilities, identifying potential hazards and implementing mitigation strategies. Oversee due diligence processes for capital projects, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Capital Planning & Project Management: Participate in the strategic planning process for capital projects, providing expert input on facility needs, design considerations, and construction timelines. Manage project lifecycles from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Sustainability & Innovation: Promote sustainable practices within facilities management operations, exploring innovative technologies and solutions to enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and improve overall campus sustainability.

Your Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in a field such as Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designations such as EP, CRSP, ROH are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in facilities management, construction management, or a related field within a complex environment.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, environmental standards, and best practices in facilities management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
