Industrial Automation Specialist

This is a hands-on technical position that involves working with state-of-the-art laser processing equipment and the latest in robotics and machine tool technology in a research and development laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities- Equipment Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain a wide variety of high-end industrial equipment, including lasers, laser heads, robots, PLCs, fieldbus communication systems, sectioning/polishing machines, microscopes, and more.
- Operator Training and Documentation: Provide technical direction and assistance to employees and customers using the equipment, and prepare robot and laser equipment with appropriate laser beam delivery configurations, fieldbus configurations, control wiring, etc., for specific experiments.
- Automation System Design and Maintenance: Plan and design simple automation systems, and regularly update and enforce training manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Troubleshoot and repair various laboratory electronics and control systems, and analyze test results using electronic reporting.
- Additional Projects: Participate in additional projects as needed, and assist with metallographic cross-sectioning and polishing.
- Education and Experience: College diploma in industrial automation, electronics, robotics, or a related field plus 3-5 years experience in a similar role, or university engineering degree (B.Sc.E / B.Eng) in a related field plus 2-3 years experience in a similar role.
- Technical Skills: Experience in electronics, robotics, controls & automation, welding applications, and/or manufacturing technology, fluency in two or more of the following CNC / Robot programming environments: G-Code, ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, and fluency in one or more common PLC / Ladder Logic programming environments.
- Communication and Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, well-organized and able to operate independently to accomplish clearly-stated goals with minimal direct supervision, strong professional communication, negotiation, and teaching skills in the English language.
