Industrial Automation Specialist

Job Overview
IPG Photonics is a world leader in high-power fibre lasers for industrial welding and cutting equipment. Our Canadian subsidiary in Ontario produces market-disrupting sensor technology and software that is transforming the manufacturing industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and schedule the Applications Lab resources to ensure optimal equipment utilization and efficient workflow.
- Provide technical direction and assistance to employees and customers utilizing the equipment, ensuring seamless integration and operation.
- Configure and prepare robot and laser equipment for specific experiments, including laser beam delivery configurations, fieldbus configurations, control wiring, and more.
- Design and implement simple automation systems to streamline processes and improve productivity.
- Perform regular maintenance and service history tracking of all equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair various laboratory electronics and control systems to maintain a high level of equipment reliability.
- Develop and update training manuals and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Assist with metallographic cross-sectioning and polishing to support research and development efforts.
- Analyze test results using electronic reporting to inform decision-making and drive process improvements.
Requirements
- College diploma in industrial automation, electronics, robotics, or a related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, or a university engineering degree in a related field, plus 2-3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience in electronics, robotics, controls, and automation, welding applications, and/or manufacturing technology.
- Fluency in two or more of the following CNC/robot programming environments: G-Code, ABB, Kuka, Fanuc.
- Fluency in one or more common PLC/ladder logic programming environments.
- Experience implementing and configuring one or more common factory automation/fieldbus networks (EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Well-organized and able to operate independently to accomplish clearly stated goals with minimal direct supervision.
- Strong professional communication, negotiation, and teaching skills in the English language are essential.
- Proficiency in any other language from this list is not essential, but may be an asset: Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, Italian, French, Polish.
