NOTE: This posting represents a temporary two-year contract. SCOPE Reporting to the Spokesperson and Director of Reputation Management, the incumbent plays a key role in preserving and managing the University's reputation primarily as it impacts, or could impact, media and social media coverage and public perception, and writing and coordinating various institutional communications. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop and implement comprehensive proactive and integrated communication strategy plans for issues and crisis management, including drafting required content such as key messages, media responses, briefing books, and backgrounders. Assess the impact of crises on media, stakeholders, and internal communication.
  2. Coordinate major announcements to ensure cohesive messaging.
  3. Advise leadership teams on strategies and tactics to address issues and mitigate reputational risks. Identify internal and external issues, working with Communications Advisors and other staff to assess potential impacts on the University's reputation. Provide communication advice to faculties and administrative units on reputational risk management.
  4. Serve as the back-up media spokesperson for the University on sensitive and high-profile issues.
  5. Manage media relations for student media on all matters. Act as the primary contact for student media requests and issues.
  6. Monitor and analyze social media alerts and reports. Flag or summarize pertinent content for leadership and sector leaders. Create and analyze topical media reports relevant to institutional reputation management.
  7. Research and provide comparative analysis of responses to specific topics within the post-secondary sector.
  8. Guide communications staff on media interactions relevant to reputation management.
  9. Develop a deep understanding of complex issues by consulting with staff, attending relevant meetings, and researching trends.
  10. Maintain organized and searchable archives of all communication plans, key messages, and media lines.
  11. Manage the translation and approval processes for communication materials.
  12. Liaise with University Advancement (UA) and University Communications Services (UCS) teams as required.
  13. Act as a back-up for the Senior Writer, producing speeches, briefing notes, announcements, and other communications materials for the President and other high-profile leaders. Develop and produce content for various formats including PowerPoint presentations, videos, emails, and web updates.
  14. Analyze complex information and data, extracting key points for speeches and other communication materials.
  15. Convey scientific and technical information in a conversational tone.
  16. Draft and edit texts in English and French as requested by the Chief Communications Officer. Create a wide variety of digital and print products to support university communication priorities and convey key messages.
  17. Perform other duties as requested by the Spokesperson and Director of Reputation Management or the Chief Communications Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the primary responsibilities and over seven years of relevant work experience.
  2. Very good written and spoken English and French (level 5).
  3. Experience in a large public-sector institution. Knowledge of Concordia University or post-secondary education sector is considered an asset.
  4. Demonstrated experience in addressing complex issues with multiple stakeholders.
  5. Strong acumen in media relations with outstanding news judgment.
  6. Proven experience in crisis management and strategic advisory roles.
  7. Ability to digest and convey complex and sensitive information effectively.
  8. Proven ability to formulate and implement media and issues management strategies.
  9. Strong abilities in developing compelling stories.
  10. Proven ability to source accurate information quickly.
  11. Excellent project coordination and organizational skills.
  12. Proven ability to set priorities, multi-task and to work reliably under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  13. Demonstrated skill in managing relationships and requests with tact, diplomacy and persuasion.
  14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  15. Experience working with and advising senior management.
  16. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  17. Knowledge of and proficiency with media tools (e.g., social media).
  18. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office suite of business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Planner, Teams and Sharepoint).
