ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Spokesperson and Director of Reputation Management, the incumbent is essential in safeguarding and enhancing the University's reputation, particularly concerning media and public perception, through effective communication strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Formulate and execute integrated communication strategies for crisis and issue management, including drafting essential content such as key messages and media responses. Evaluate the repercussions of crises on media and stakeholders while ensuring unified messaging during significant announcements.
  2. Provide strategic counsel to leadership on addressing issues and minimizing reputational risks. Collaborate with Communications Advisors to identify and assess potential impacts on the University’s reputation.
  3. Act as the backup media spokesperson for sensitive and high-profile matters.
  4. Oversee media relations for student media, serving as the primary contact for inquiries and issues.
  5. Monitor social media alerts and reports, summarizing relevant content for leadership. Conduct media analysis pertinent to institutional reputation management.
  6. Develop a comprehensive understanding of complex issues through consultation and research.
  7. Maintain organized archives of communication plans and key messages.
  8. Manage translation and approval processes for communication materials.
  9. Collaborate with University Advancement and University Communications Services teams as necessary.
  10. Support the Senior Writer by producing speeches and communications materials for high-profile leaders.
  11. Analyze intricate information and data, extracting key points for communication materials.
  12. Draft and edit content in English and French as required.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Spokesperson and Director of Reputation Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with over seven years of applicable experience

• Proficient in written and spoken English and French (level 5)

• Experience in a large public-sector institution; knowledge of the post-secondary education sector is advantageous.

• Proven experience in managing complex issues with multiple stakeholders

• Strong media relations skills with excellent news judgment

• Demonstrated expertise in crisis management and strategic advisory roles

• Ability to effectively communicate complex and sensitive information.

• Proven capability in developing and implementing media and issues management strategies.

• Strong storytelling abilities.

• Proven ability to quickly source accurate information

• Excellent project coordination and organizational skills

• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work effectively under pressure

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse individuals and groups

• Knowledge of media tools and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
